We are incredibly excited to present a screening of Leaving the Fold, a documentary about young people who leave ultra-Orthodoxy. It will be followed by a panel discussion, where we will explain who we are, why we exist, what we are doing now – and share our personal journeys on leaving the ultra-Orthodox world. This will all happen on Wednesday, September 14th 2016 at the Rialto Theater.
Leaving the Fold, directed by Eric Scott and produced by Academy Award winner Frederic Bohbot, tells the story of what it’s like to leave an ultra-Orthodox community through the eyes of those who’ve left and their families who have chosen to stay. It presents the human side of our members’ struggles.
The panel discussion will give audience members the opportunity to hear more about the people in the film and how we our organization is working to empower our members to pursue their own happiness and success.
7:00 – Doors will open.
7:30 – Screening of Leaving the Fold.
8:30 – Q&A with the director, central cast figure, & Forward members.
9:00 – Network with Forward members, to hear their incredible stories and learn about the cause.
All proceeds from ticket sales will go directly to fund member activities. Our primary goal is to fund monthly member meetups. Other funds will be used to host workshops and programs, cultural outings, emergency funding, outside support services, and eventually scholarships, emergency housing and more.
Beverages will be available on location for purchase.
A big thanks to the Rialto for allowing us to use their hall.
This is our first major event as an official organization and we are very thankful for your support!
Tickets are free for Forward members, or individuals who’ve left their ultra-Orthodox jewish communities and would like to become members. Please contact Levi for details.
